  14. This is a project I completed for school. If you find it interesting or
  15. useful, PLEASE LET ME KNOW as I would like to finish it.

  30. The DiscGuitar is a computerized "playing" guitar capable of real time play,
  31. "sequenced" recording, and playback through the IBM PC speaker, or Creative
  32. Labs SoundBlaster card.

  36. NOTE: This program works ONLY with a mouse! It will not work with a keyboard.
  37. however, when using the file open menu, you must use the "down" and "up" arrow
  38. keys of the keyboard ONLY.
  39.  
  40. BUGS: There are no obvious bugs that I am aware of, however, occasionally
  41. during playback (especially with slower machines) the screen receives a 
  42. "floodfill" of green. I haven't yet tracked it down, but it is rare.

  44. IMPORTANT: TO LOAD A SONG, click the left mouse button on top of the cassette
  45. tape area, for a list of available songs. Also, when saving a song, be sure to
  46. give it the extention "gtr".

  48. The file NOTES.TLB MUST be in the current directory.!!!!

  53. QUIT -
  54. Click on the black button on the upper right of the tape player
  55.  
  56. PLAY -
  57. To play the guitar click the left mouse button on the desired note (for non
  58. guitarists, a note is played directly ABOVE the fret on the desired string).
  59. For an open string, click the right mouse button on the string. If you have
  60. a SoundBlaster card, you may select the (3) available instruments. The 
  61. default is the Pc Speaker. The program has 10 instruments defined, just not
  62. in the menu yet.

  64. RECORD -
  65. Press the Record button on the tape machine (red). A red indicator light will
  66. go on in the middle of the tape unit, and the note counter should be reset
  67. to 0.  Select a note value from the note menu (default is whole note). To input
  68. a REST, highlight the rest icon (rectange figure near note icons), and play
  69. any note with the left button. The note won't be recorded, but will rest
  70. according to the current note value. Press the STOP (black) button on the tape
  71. machine to end recording. You can play back immediately, and/or save the song.

  73. SAVE -
  74. Press the save button, and you will be asked to enter a song name. It MUST be
  75. given the extention *.gtr.  ** This feature still needs to be converted for
  76. graphics input **

  78. LOAD -
  79. To load a song, click on the cassette tape area (window of tape machine). The
  80. list of available songs for playback will be listed on the upper left part of
  81. the screen. Use arrow KEYS ONLY to scroll through list of files. Press ENTER to
  82. make selection. Selection title will then appear in the cassette window.

  85. PLAYBACK -
  86. After a song is loaded, or recorded, press PLAY (blue) from the tape machine
  87. to play back a song. As song is played, notes will light up on fretboard where
  88. fingering would occur, and the note description is displayed at the bottom of
  89. the screen. The LED counter also displays the sequential note number. The mouse
  90. cursor is placed on the Remote unit automatically.

  92.     PLAYBACK FEATURES (REMOTE) -
  93.     The remote buttons: PAUSE, BACK, FORWARD, RESUME and STOP.
  94.     During play back the buttons will do the following:

  96.     PAUSE-
  97.     This will pause tbe song. From here, you can use the other options.
  98.  
  99.     BACK-
  100.     As you click, the song will play in reverse, allowing you to go back to
  101.     a certain note, or part of a song. The LED counter will be adjusted
  102.     accordingly.

  104.     FORWARD-
  105.     Works like BACK, execept it will move up through the song.
  106.  
  107.     RESUME-
  108.     Will continue playing the current song.

  110.     STOP- (bottom)
  111.     Will stop song completely, and exit PlayBack Mode.

  115. Other features
  116. =================
  117. On the Tape unit are several grey pushbuttons. Most are not defined yet.
  118. The that says STEP, will light red when you press it. It will PAUSE for
  119. a keystroke between each note during PlayBack.
  120. The one that says COL, will cycle through all the available colors, changing
  121. the fretboard.
